Finn Carter Biography, Quick Facts, Where Is She Now?

American actress Finn Carter is best recognized for the monster film Trembling (1990). The movie was famous for the scenes where Carter’s character, Rhonda LeBeck, would have to take off her panties to escape the monsters.

Tremors received rave reviews from critics and was particularly praised for its use of humor and a diverse cast. At the box office, it was only moderately successful, grossing only an additional $5.6 million on an $11 million budget. However, the commercial success of the film fell short, with home video sales generating millions of additional dollars. It has also achieved great success on the Internet and on television. These subsequent successes were enough to earn Tremors a cult following that has stood the test of time.

Biography of Finn Carter

Carter was born as Elizabeth Fearn Carter on March 9, 1960 in Greenville, Mississippi. Her father is Hodding Carter III, an American journalist and politician who previously served in the United States Department as Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs during the Jimmy Carter administration. Finn is one of his father’s four children with his first wife, the former Margaret Ainsworth Wolfe. His siblings include his brother Hodding Carter IV and his sisters Catherine Carter and Margaret Carter. Sadly, Carter’s parents divorced when she was 18 in 1978.

Her parents’ marriage which began in 1957 – the year her father graduated from Princeton – lasted 21 years. The year his father divorced his mother, he married Patricia M. Derian, a human rights official under President Carter.

After graduating from Walnut Hill School for the Performing Arts in Natick, Massachusetts, Carter studied acting at Skidmore College in New York City from 1979 to 1980, where he studied acting and English literature. She later transferred to Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Carter began acting professionally in the theater, becoming a member of the Circle Repertory Company of New York. She was also a member of the Old Globe Theater in San Diego where she created the character Effie Herrington in a production of Up In Saratoga. From the theater, Carter dabbled in television and landed her first bit of on-screen gig in the daytime soap As the World Turns which aired on ABC. Carter played Sierra Estaban Reyes Montgomery for three years, from 1985 to 1988. She returned in 1994 to reprise the role.

Carter continued to take gigs on television, and in 1989 she made her film debut in the romantic comedy How I Got Into College. The film also served as the debut for voice actor Tom Kenny, who then landed his big break as the voice lead in the hit animation. SpongeBob SquarePants.

Finn Carter would land her own big break in Tremors which was released in January 1990. For her role as Rhonda LeBeck, she was nominated for the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress. Tremors slowly garnered a cult following that exists even to this day. Its success has been more in home videos than at the box office. The film was developed into a franchise and has since produced at least 5 direct-to-video sequels and a television series.

Carter continued her big career with a recurring role on the ABC series China Beach. She played the lead role in the 1996 action film Sweet Justice and had a supporting role in Ghosts of Mississippi released the same year.

Where is she now?

Finn Carter’s career seems to have started to falter from 1996. One could almost think of an impending retirement as she was only guest-starring on numerous TV shows from Law & Order to ER, NYPD Blue, Judge Amy, CSI and more. For a time, Carter stuck to the TV movies in which she had starred. As of this writing, Carter was last seen in the 2005 indie drama Halfway Decent, in which she played Bonnie.

Since then, she’s completely retreated from the spotlight and as a result, there’s no telling where the former Tremors star might be. At the time of her last film’s release, Carter was 8 years old in her second marriage to James Woodruff. However, two years later, in 2007, they divorced. The marriage had two daughters, Carter and Josephine.
