He was born Christopher Loffredo Hayes on February 28, 1979 in Norwood, New York City. Chris Hayes is American but of mixed race. His father and mother are of Irish and Italian descent.
His parents, Roger and Geri Hayes, raised him in New York along with his other two brothers, Luke and Lynn Hayes. His mother worked as a school teacher but later transferred to the New York City Department of Education, while his father spent many years in New York at the New York Community Service Society. He has also guest-starred on several other MSNBC shows such as Countdown with Keith Olbermann , The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell , and The Ed Show . Beginning August 1, 2011, Chris hosted a two-hour weekend morning show. Then on September 17, 2012, he launched With Chris Hayes , with a live interview with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
